the house. abc's john muller is here with the latest. john? >> reporter: ron, the amber alert, the children thought to have died in that horrible fire are alive. it took almost a week for this amber alert. but repeated searches for the children or their remains have turned up nothing. overnight, tennessee officials putting out a statewide amber alert. 9-year-old chloie leverette, and gage daniel. it's been six days since a fire torched the home with their step-grandparents. initially it was thought that the children and the grandparents died in the flames. but after six days of exhaustive searching inside the rubble, there's only physical evidence of the grandparent, not the children. >> if we just had ashes, you know, or the bodies. but we don't have anything. >> reporter: the amber alert reads, the location of chloie and gage is unknown. authorities have no reason to think the children have left the state. >> we don't have sufficient evidence from fire investigators right now to positively conclude they died in this fire makes us want to make sure that they are not somewhere else. >> repo

plane crash in spotsylvania county, virginia is expected to take months. 48-year-old john morton, jr. and his 13-year-old son kyle died in saturday night's crash. virginia state police say the father was practicing takeoffs and landings at the private shannon airport when the cessna plummeted into a mobile home park near the runway. it's believed he spent many of his final moments, the pilot did, trying to avoid hitting some of the mobile homes on the ground. no one on the ground was hurt. >>> the driver of an suv involved in a fiery four- vehicle crash is facing drunk driving charges. d.c. police say more charges are pending. sunday morning's crash in the petworth area of northwest sent six people to the hospital, including two police officers. at last word two of the victims were listed in critical condition with burns. two officers suffered minor burns while trying to free them. authorities have not released the names of those involved. >>> a coal-fired power plant in alexandria that has drawn the scorn of environmentalists for decades is closing today. it in 1949 but had been fo

, the president was winning independent voters by 13 points. in 2008, he defeated john mccain by 8. i will be looking at the independent numbers. the other thing, too, very quickly, and in terms of minorities and youth vote, the other thing about barack obama's election in 2008 was that he wants something on the order of 43% of the -- won something on the order of 40% of the white vote. look, the country is changing. in 2008, 3/for the electorate was white, down from the mid-to- high-80s years ago. in a very close election, i don't think anyone thought it would be a seven-point race. the metrics are there for him to win. >> to me the most -- sorry to interrupt -- to me the most stunning numbers from 2008 -- one, if you take out the 18-to- 29-year-olds, mccain and obama tied. that shows you how important the youth vote is. by the way, that is why use the air force one is showing up at universities in swing states. the other factor is that john mccain beat barack obama 55-43 among white voters. george w. bush in 2000 beat al gore among white voters 55-43. the margin is the same. so how
